I’m just fourteen years old, and I’m a published artist and writer that was looking for a creative style, because any successful artist does something that only they do. I sketch. A lot. But everyone sketches, so cross that off the list. And I’m an okay person with pastels, but everyone uses those, so “X” that off, too. And painting? Nono. So all that’s left is...nothing.
I was stuck, praying for a sign. And then it came in the most surprising of ways.
“Gina, can you draw me something?” Is what a friend of mine asked on Instagram, of all places, and I said yes (because I’m such a good samaritan). He sent me a picture of a colorful parrot that was painted, with splatters and more color than a person’s eyes can handle. I don’t recall the name of the artist or the painting, but it was a very, very tall order. Still, though, I agreed to do it.
And about a month later, I gave him a copy of the work. Paint and I don’t get along well (I’m a Messy Marvin, just imagine), so I used my collection of old, unloved sharpies and highlighters that were collecting dust, and drew. And I will admit, it’s probably the best thing I’ve made so far. And then, once I was done, I realized: I made my own creation. Yes, I did kinda use the parrot’s body, but it was completely different. I didn’t use paint and it was a bit less busy, and I changed it up completely.
(Here's the parrot I made! Voila!)
So with the help of a little 6th grader’s request, I found my own style and completed two things. With that design that I made and created (or so I hope), I also made another thing for a friend -- a toucan. So here they are, and don’t copy these; I’m published! If you want any tips, let me know!

There you have it! I’ll also end on this note: what about you? Do you have a creative style? How did you find it? What steps do you take to do it? Alright, Gina out.
